"Did you have a hard time deciding what shoes to wear today?"

How many pairs of shoes do you see?

Another Late Post AND the addition to our family!!

I don't like going to bed while David is still out slaving away on homework. I'm too tired to be very productive myself, so why not write here? Not too much has changed since the last post. It's now 3 weeks of being married. Everything is put away! YAY! oh and I bought us some nice silverware at Ross. 20 piece set, $10.

Well Dave was ready for bed so I stopped mid thought and I'm picking up where I left off last time. It's noon on a Saturday and what is my dear David doing? Homework. Poor guy!

Anyway, I've found that I'm a pretty good shopper. And I mean clothes shopping. I find the best deals on stuff. On our honeymoon I bought a pair of jeans for $6 that were originally $100. I'm pretty good at stopping myself from buying clothes when I know I don't need it.

HoweverI struggle with grocery shopping. Oh, I find good deals, LOTS of good deals. For example, I came home one day announced to David that I had saved $85 on groceries! I figure out that I saved 40% on my groceries that day. I'll let you figure out how much I spent. In my defense, it was a case lot sale and we definitely have a 3 month food supply!

We have a fish. His name is Jonah. Guess who named him. Dave. Every name I suggest for a dog he says, "we can name a fish that." Then we get a fish and none of those names were considered! I'm not complaining, I just think it's funny. We had a lesson on Jonah and that's when we decided what we would name a fish when we got him. We got the fish because we had the name. That's what I get for marrying a pre-vet!

I was going to make cucumber bread but I have been coughing, no hacking, for the past 45 minutes. Dave challenged me to a race from the TSC to our apartment. It's probably about a mile. I have never coughed so bad in my life. I have barely taken a breath since I started running. Every time I take a deep breath I start coughing. Poor Dave keeps poking his head around the corner to make sure I'm not actually dying. Maybe I have asthma. My siblings had exercise induced asthma. I was never tested but after not breathing for this long maybe I will....

Hmm what else to say. I finally paid my photographer so hopefully I will be getting my wedding photos and will post some sweet ones up here. In the main time check out abbyalgerphotography.instaproofs.com and find the Aimee and David link. Click on "my photographer" and look at her main page slide show. It's MY CAKE!!!!!

OK, time for me to at least pretend to get some homework done.

2 Weeks of Marriage

Well, we've been married for 2 weeks now!! To be honest, it feels a lot longer than that! We've been keeping pretty busy with school, cleaning and unpacking, homework, and our jobs. Yes, I (Aimee) finally got a job!! But I'll write about David first. He is an SI leader. This means that for 50 min on Tuesday and Wednesday he reviews Biology with whoever comes to the SI. Currently he is looking up fun videos on the scientific method which is why I'm writing here. Poor guy has so many science classes. His labs go until 6:30, even on Friday! He has 3 labs a week which was so sad last week because I home alone until he got back. But now I have a job which keeps me out until 6. So the house won't be cleaned and organized as quickly, but that's ok since I'm making $15 an hour! And I only work 12 hours a week! It's so great! I start tomorrow and I'm excited! I'm tutoring a high school sophomore. He especially needs help with English and.......... MATH. Haha! But it's geometry and it actually makes sense to me now.

My classes are a lot of fun. A few of my classes are advanced sewing, child guidance, and preschool methods. I am learning SOOO much about children and how to raise them. I'll pose the cool info I learn. So far, some cool things I've learned are:
  • To help your child gain self esteem, don't comment on all of their stuff (artwork), "WOW that's so good!" because then they will learn that approval comes from adults. Ask them how THEY like it.
  • Let them explore.
  • Don't model anything but behavior. Let them be creative and create whatever they desire.
  • They shouldn't be put into competitive situations until age 8 (I'm going to talk to my teacher about this more for more clarification, this was just a tangent we got on during class). But competition can be demotivating for children
  • Teach them by using what they are interested in. If a child will only play with trucks, the teaching possibilities are endless. You can teach them about color, size, textures, letters (if the trucks have words on them), etc.
There is just so much good stuff in my class!! I'll bring back my course reader (it has TONS of articles on how children learn) so you guys can look up stuff you're interested in. One last thing, don't give you preschool aged children worksheets and coloring books. Let them color in their OWN lines.

Well it's too late for me and I will try and see if I can get Dave to go to bed now :)

All is well here! Just lots of boxes...
